SAGAR WATCH @ Sagar City's life-saver Rajghat Jalavardhan project is once again seen as a gift for the vote-politics. Due to political gains, local leaders of both the major parties have kept silence, who used to remain in the headlines by releasing big news on the matter.

Earlier, the severe water scarcity had become the identity of the city of Sagar, to get rid of that problem the Rajghat project came into existence. Afterwards, the village panchayats adjacent to the city were first connected, which later became NagarPalika and now when the Sukhi by-election is ahead,  Minister Govind Singh Rajput has announced to provide water from this project to the Bilhara of Surkhi constituency. However, at present, this process can be accepted only at the government level.

It is noteworthy that Sagar city was once known for its severe drinking water crisis. More than three decades ago, the condition was that in the summer season there was a need to provide water supply from the railway.

For the permanent solution of that severe water scarcity, Rajghat district Arvadhan project was prepared during the tenure of former Collector BR Naidu, originally the project was designed to fulfil the water requirements of residents of the Sagar city for the next 50 years.

While the Rajghat project under construction, with a view to getting political mileage, the then Mayor Pradeep Laria, included Makaronia, Razakhedi Gram Panchayats of naryaoli constituency, into this project. This is now taken the form of Makronia Nagar Palika by merging three other panchayats and getting water supply.

As the Surkhi by-elections are approaching, Once again, the local politicians eying on the Rajghat project to get political advantage. Recently, Minister Govind Singh Rajput, during the Bhumi Pujan of the Nal-Jal project in village Bilhara of the region, announced that water will be supplied from Rajghat in this project.

If the government has approved the tap water project in Bilhara, then its DPR will be prepared which will also include the matter of water supply. It is said that there is no mention of Rajghat Dam in it.

But this announcement of the Minister Shri Rajput is being seen as political jugglery to get in upcoming Surkhi by-election. It is noteworthy that Shri Rajput has been elected three times from the area, despite this, the water problem prevailing in Bilhara could not be solved till date.

According to Mr Rajput, people have to buy drinking water even in hot weather. After such political movement, it wouldn't be surprising if a voice from the city started rising that the Rajghat project is exclusively built for the city. It should be known that even the farmers of dozens of villages around the dam site have also been banned by the government.

Sagar:

Aggrieved over their leaders not getting ministerial berths, supporters of two BJP MLAs staged protests in Madhya Pradesh on Friday, a day after the state cabinet's expansion.

Supporters of Sagar MLA Shailendra Jain staged a "Jal Satyagraha'' in Sagar district, while supporters of Naryawali MLA Pradeep Laria protested at the state BJP's office in Bhopal, demanding inclusion of their leader in the cabinet.

Naryawali in the Sagar district is a constituency reserved for Scheduled Castes.

Protesting at the BJP headquarters, Mr Laria's supporters shouted slogans in support of the MLA.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expanded his cabinet on Thursday by inducting 28 new ministers. BJP MP and former Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia's supporters bagged 12 slots, which reportedly has not gone down well with sections of the saffron party.

Mr Jain's supporters stood in waist-deep water in a pond in Sagar to protest his non-inclusion in the ministry.

The "water satyagraha'' was led by Manoj Raikwar, a former member of the BJP's Backward Class Cell.

"They have not fulfilled their promise to give representation to the Sagar district in the ministry. It is betrayal.

"Every time they promise that if they (people of Sagar) ensure the victory of the candidate, he or she will be inducted in the cabinet, but nothing happens," Mr Raikwar said.

Mr Jain, who is representing Sagar constituency for the third time, told PTI, "It is a natural reaction of workers and local people.

"For the last three decades, people of the region have given MLAs, MPs and Mayors to the BJP, but the development of the area that was expected never took place. The party leadership must give a thought to people's reaction," he said.
