Journalism: The Responsibility of Becoming the Voice of Society Beyond Just Reporting News Dialogue with Students on Grassroots Journalism Satish Kumar, an alumnus and independent journalist, interacted with students at the Department of Communication and Journalism, Dr. Harisingh Gour University, Sagar, sharing his experiences in the field.

He explained that journalism is not merely about recording events but carries the responsibility of bringing to light issues that society often overlooks. The Journey from Struggle to Independent Journalism Satish Kumar recounted his journey, spanning from the financial and social challenges faced during his studies to becoming an independent journalist.

He shared experiences regarding his reporting on issues concerning villagers, farmers, laborers, marginalized sections, and the general public. Even Small Local Issues Can Become Major Stories He told the students that one does not necessarily need to be based in a big city or work for a major media organization to practice journalism.

A broader picture of society can often be found within local issues—such as a village's water crisis, a farmer's crop, the life of a laborer, the status of women, or a child's education. Patience and Facts Are Crucial in Investigative Journalism Satish Kumar emphasized that investigative journalism should not be viewed merely as a means to generate sensational news or obtain specific documents.

According to him, quality reporting requires extensive research, document scrutiny, dialogue with sources, and the independent verification of facts. Sensitivity Is Equally Important for a Journalist. He advised students that before publishing a story, a journalist must examine the underlying causes of an event, identify who is affected, and consider which perspectives have not yet been revealed.

In sensitive cases, it is also the journalist's responsibility to respect the dignity of the affected family. New Challenges for Journalism in the Age of AI Dean Prof. Balwant Singh Bhadauria noted that journalism faces new challenges in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Citing the example of journalists like Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi, he inspired students to pursue journalism with truth, courage, and a sense of social responsibility. Lessons on Turning Struggle into Success Referring to Satish Kumar’s journey, Dr. Vivek Jaiswal noted that he began with a small newspaper and persisted in the field of journalism despite adverse circumstances.

Dr. Aleem Ahmed Khan urged students to maintain clarity of purpose, integrity, and dedication to duty. Key Highlights: The objective of journalism is not merely to report news but to bring the unheard voices of society to the forefront. Local issues often hold the potential for significant social stories.

Research, document scrutiny, and fact-checking are essential in investigative journalism. It is crucial to uphold human dignity and responsibility when reporting on sensitive stories. In the era of AI, the importance of truth, credibility, and human empathy for a journalist has become even greater. The program inspired students to view journalism not just as a career, but as a medium to understand society and become its voice.
Key Point: पत्रकारिता का उद्देश्य केवल खबर देना नहीं,समाज की अनसुनी आवाज को सामने लाना है.
