Every property – including abandoned and newly constructed – is to be realistically assessed by the Municipal Corporation across the state and brought under the ambit of property tax.

For this purpose, a GIS survey has been conducted to determine the area of properties in the municipal corporation area and the type of their use (commercial or residential).

According to Sagar Municipal Corporation, in this exercise, no new tax has been imposed on the properties in its border area nor has any type of tax been increased.

However, as a result of the GIS survey, the number of properties registered in the Municipal Corporation has increased by about 10 thousand properties and they have been brought under the ambit of property tax.

Property tax on such new properties has been determined as per the government guidelines. Citizens can also determine their property tax themselves by visiting the e-Municipality portal.

Revenue Officer Brijesh Tiwari said that if any person has any kind of objection regarding the property tax bill, then he can register his objection in the Municipal Corporation office.

He will have to submit documents related to the ownership of his property in support of his objection claim, after examining which, if the claim is found to be true, rectification action will be taken as per rules.
