Sagar Watch News/ Even after multiple surprise inspections, salary deductions, and official warnings, absenteeism among teachers in government schools continues to rise — raising questions about accountability, work culture, and monitoring mechanisms.
Under ongoing instructions to ensure mandatory e-attendance and punctual presence of teachers, a fresh round of inspections was conducted on December 4, 2025, by the District Education Officer across Shahgarh and Banda blocks.
Surprise Inspection :
-
Multiple teachers were found absent during school hours despite mandatory digital attendance rules.
-
Students were present, but teachers were missing in several schools.
-
Some teachers were present but had not signed the attendance registers.
-
In one school, no students were present at all, and the in-charge received a show-cause notice.
-
Instances of students roaming unsupervised indicate a lack of discipline and monitoring.
Schools With Major Violations Identified:
-
Govt. Middle School, Jagthar
-
Govt. Integrated Middle School, Kanti
In Bijri, three teachers were absent, students were found wandering in the premises, and disciplinary action has been initiated, including a one-day salary deduction and suspension of one annual increment.
At Kanti school, although teachers were present, the building was found dilapidated, dirty, and with stray animals inside, prompting a show-cause notice to the in-charge along with instructions to run the school in a single shift for better supervision.
Second Phase of Inspection (Malthoun Block):
Led by Assistant Director M.K. Chadhar, inspections at four schools found widespread absenteeism at:
While Basera and Pithaoria schools were operating normally, several teachers in other schools were marked absent without permission.
Administrative Action Taken:
-
One-day salary deduction for all absent permanent staff.
-
Show-cause notices issued for withholding annual increments.
-
Last warning issued to guest teachers with direction to appear at the DEO office to justify absence.
The crackdown highlights a persistent issue: discipline mechanisms exist, but compliance remains weak. The education department is continuing strict monitoring — but the larger question remains: Why are repeated inspections not changing behaviour?
Officials say the monitoring drive will continue until attendance culture improves.
