Sagar Watch News/ is set to launch an ambitious initiative called “Mission Chess” to encourage school students to learn and play chess. The program, announced by Collector Mr. Sandeep G.R., will be rolled out in all government schools to boost children’s mental development, concentration, and memory power.
During a discussion with officials of the District Chess Association, the Collector emphasized that chess is not just a game but a tool for intellectual and social growth. Present at the meeting were District Chess Association President Mr. Dharmendra Sharma, Secretary Mr. Nitin Chaurasia, and other officials.
As part of the initiative:
-
At least one teacher in every school will be trained in chess through a district-level training camp.
-
These teachers will then conduct chess classes for students.
-
The District Sports Officer will arrange foldable roll-up chess mats for schools.
-
Chess competitions will be held annually at school, block, and district levels, with selected students representing the district at the state level.
The program will begin as a pilot project in five schools before being expanded to every school in the district.
Collector Sandeep G.R. said chess can be especially beneficial for girls, providing them not only entertainment but also a platform for critical thinking, focus, and problem-solving skills. “Chess encourages students to build connections between ideas, sharpens their mathematical and reading abilities, and helps them stay focused on their goals,” he added.
This initiative marks a significant step toward using sports as a medium to enhance learning and overall personality development among students
