🗞️Surprise Inspections Reveal Stark Reality

The surprise inspections in Sagar district serve as a wake-up call for the entire Bundelkhand education system.

While the administration’s crackdown sends a strong message, sustainable change will depend on consistent monitoring, strict enforcement, and renewed dedication from senior officers and teaching staff alike.

Until then, the dream of quality education for Bundelkhand’s children remains locked behind closed school gates.

Sagar, Bundelkhand | October 30, 2025: A series of surprise inspections ordered by Collector Sandeep GR have exposed serious lapses in the functioning of government schools across the Bundelkhand region.

Several schools were found closed during working hours, while in others, teachers were missing and students were nowhere to be seen.

The findings have once again raised questions about the accountability of the teaching staff and the supervision mechanisms meant to uphold the integrity of public education.

🔹 Appathy Of Education Officers

  • Collector’s Directive: District Collector Sandeep GR had instructed education officials to ensure that teachers and staff mark e-attendance and remain present in schools during duty hours. Continuous and unannounced inspections were ordered across all government institutions.

  • Schools Found Closed:

    • Government Integrated Middle School, Bilhani (Banda block) – The Entire institution was found locked. Teachers Mohanlal Ahirwar, Jyoti Suryavanshi, Deshraj Chadhar, Dharmendra Chaubey, Suresh Kumar Deheriya, and Ramkumar Ahirwar (guest) were absent.

    • Government Middle School, Madainya God (Rahatgarh block) – Institution also found closed. All teachers absent; no students present.

    • Government Middle School, Madainya God (Rahatgarh block) – Teachers Neelima Paliwal, Ashok Chadhar, and Vineet Kumar Gupta were absent.

  • Partial Compliance:

    • Integrated Government High School, Kudari (Sagar block) – School operational, but teacher Lalit Soni was present without signing the attendance register.

  • Better Performance in Some Schools:
In Bina block, inspections by Assistant Director M.K. Chadhar found schools like Government Excellent Higher Secondary School No.1, School No.2, and Government Girls Higher Secondary School functioning properly with full staff attendance. Only minor absences were reported at Sandipani Model Higher Secondary School.

  • Severe Negligence Reported in Kesli Block:
Government High School Khamaria and Government High School Deori Naharmau were both found operating without any teachers present, though over 50 students were seen wandering outside. All teaching staff, including permanent and guest teachers, were absent.

⚖️ Administrative Action Taken

  • Salary Deduction: One day’s salary has been deducted from all absent government teachers.

  • Disciplinary Proceedings: Show-cause notices have been issued to errant staff, and one annual increment has been withheld for gross negligence.

  • Guest Teachers Terminated: Services of absent guest teachers have been proposed for termination.

🏫 What This Reveals About Public Education in Bundelkhand

The inspection findings reveal a disturbing picture of public education in Bundelkhand — a system weakened by apathy, absenteeism, and lack of accountability. Despite administrative reforms and technology-driven attendance systems, many schools remain non-functional, depriving rural children of basic learning opportunities.

The region’s educational crisis reflects not just poor teacher discipline but a deep structural failure in supervision and field monitoring.

👁️‍🗨️ Role of Senior Education Department Officers

  • Expected Role:
Senior officers — including the District Education Officer (DEO), Assistant Directors, and Project Coordinators — are responsible for ensuring teacher presence, maintaining discipline, and monitoring educational activities in every school.

  • Ground Reality:
Their role has often become ceremonial and paperwork-driven. Regular on-ground checks are rare, and when conducted, they expose long-standing negligence.

  • The latest inspections, however, indicate a renewed push for accountability under the Collector’s direction — a step that could mark the beginning of systemic reform if sustained.
