Sagar Watch News | A one-day national seminar on the theme “Autonomy, Moral Agency and Professional Ethics” was organised by the Department of Philosophy at Dr Harisingh Gour University, Sagar. Seminar Details
The programme was presided over by Prof. Diwakar Singh Rajput, Dean of Humanities and Social Sciences. Dr Diwakar Shukla, representing the Vice-Chancellor, attended as the chief guest, while Registrar Dr Satyaprakash Upadhyay graced the seminar as the distinguished guest.
The event was led by Seminar Director and Head of Department Dr Anil Kumar Tiwari, with Dr Archana Verma as Convenor and Dr Debasmita Chakraborty as Organising Secretary. The stage was conducted by student Atharva Mishra.
In his welcome remarks, Dr Tiwari explained the central theme and stated that true autonomy is the conscious choice we make for ourselves, and we remain fully aware of its consequences.
Speeches and Key Insights

Registrar Dr Satyaprakash Upadhyay spoke about the difference between knowledge and understanding, emphasising the relevance of ancient Indian wisdom from the Upanishads and Bhagavad Gita.

Chief Guest Prof. Diwakar Shukla explored the high and low dimensions of autonomy and moral agency. He remarked that the levels of these qualities determine whether a person acts like a demon, a human, or a divine being.

In his presidential address, Prof. Rajput praised the department and stressed the need for more such discussions, saying that ethical education supports balanced growth—intellectual, emotional and moral.
Guest speaker Dr Rajan from Allahabad University added that fulfilling one’s duty is not just personal — it affects the entire universe, because human action is deeply interconnected with nature.
Technical Sessions and Paper Presentations
In the second technical session, scholars Prof. Nirbhay Mishra and Prof. K. J. George joined online and shared their academic perspectives. The session was moderated by Dr Narendra Kumar Bauddh and Dr Satyanarayan Devaliya.
Numerous students presented their research papers, marking the seminar as an intellectually enriching platform for young scholars.
The event concluded with a shared understanding that ethical thinking is not just academic—it shapes individuals, professions and society.
