In a dramatic late-night operation, District Collector Sandeep G.R. stormed into a fireworks warehouse in Bhagyauday area and uncovered a potentially lethal cache of banned ‘carbide guns’ — explosive devices that have recently caused serious injuries to children across the state.

The surprise inspection at fireworks trader Ramesh Tala Wala’s godown sent shockwaves through the city’s firecracker market. The Collector, accompanied by Additional SP Lokesh Sinha, SDM Aman Mishra, Tehsildar Sandeep Tiwari, and Officer Rahul Gaur, personally examined every corner of the warehouse and tested the fire safety equipment on the spot, ensuring nothing was amiss.

Issuing a stern warning, Collector Sandeep declared, “No carbide guns will be stored or sold anywhere in the district. Anyone caught dealing with them will face the strictest legal action.” He directed officials to launch a district-wide crackdown on the manufacture, storage, and sale of such explosive devices.

The move follows a string of horrifying accidents involving carbide guns, including reports of children losing their eyesight after exposure to the weapon’s toxic flames and gases. Responding to these alarming incidents, Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav had already called for a statewide ban and strict enforcement against the use of carbide guns.

Health officials have since raised red flags over the device’s devastating effects on human health. Dr. Mamta Timore, Chief Medical and Health Officer, and Dr. Praveen Khare of Bundelkhand Medical College warned that even a single spark or puff of smoke from a carbide gun can cause severe eye burns, blindness, or respiratory injuries.

Dr. Khare advised urgent first aid in case of exposure: “If carbide particles or smoke enter the eyes, wash them gently with clean water for 15–20 minutes. Avoid rubbing or covering the eyes, remove contact lenses immediately, and rush to the nearest eye specialist.”

Authorities are now on high alert, with special inspection teams deployed across markets to hunt down illegal carbide guns. The Collector’s daring inspection has sent a clear message — Sagar will not tolerate dangerous explosives masquerading as festive fun.
