In a sweeping action against errant passenger buses, authorities in Madhya Pradesh have cancelled the registration of two buses and ordered them to be scrapped, sending a strong warning to violators across the state.

Acting on strict directives from the Transport Commissioner, Gwalior, and the District Collector, the Regional Transport Officer (RTO) in Sagar launched an intensified enforcement drive targeting overloading, overcharging of passengers, violation of permit conditions, and tax defaults.

On March 3, 2026, a surprise inspection was conducted on the Bhopal and Narsinghpur routes, during which 13 passenger buses were checked. Four buses were found flouting multiple safety and regulatory norms, including:

  • Absence of mandatory documents

  • Violation of permit conditions

  • Overcharging passengers

  • No High Security Registration Plates (HSRP)

  • Drivers and conductors not in the prescribed uniform

  • Missing radium reflector tapes

  • Lack of fire extinguishers and other safety equipment

Authorities imposed fines amounting to ₹10,500 under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

The RTO has issued a stern advisory to all vehicle owners to carry essential documents — insurance, fitness certificate, permit, registration card, heavy driving licence, tax receipt, and pollution certificate — at all times. Tax defaulters have been urged to clear pending dues immediately, failing which strict action will be taken under the Madhya Pradesh Motor Vehicles Taxation Act, 1991.

Officials made it clear: the crackdown is ongoing, and violators will face uncompromising action.
