Sagar Watch News/ In a major step toward protecting adolescent girls from life-threatening disease, the Health Department has launched the HPV (Cervical Cancer) Vaccination Drive across all six districts of the division from February 28.
The campaign aims to prevent cervical cancer, the second most common cancer among women in India after breast cancer.
Health officials stated that nearly 99 per cent of cervical cancer cases are caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV). The vaccine will be administered to girls who are 14 years old and up to 15 years and 3 months old.
A single-dose vaccine is considered effective and will be provided at no cost. The market price of one dose ranges between Rs 4,000 and Rs 5,000.
Registration & Availability

Vaccination registration will be done through the U-WIN portal.

Beneficiaries can opt for self-registration or on-the-spot registration at vaccination centres.

Slot booking facility is available online.

A certificate will be generated through the portal after vaccination.

Valid documents include Aadhaar card, birth certificate, student photo ID, passport, MCP card, transfer certificate, PAN card, ration card, bank passbook, and other approved ID proofs.
The vaccine will be available on all working days from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm at district hospitals and community health centres.

According to Dr Neena Gidiyan, Regional Director of Health Services:

Officials clarified that girls who have already received the HPV vaccine will not be vaccinated again, and their records will be updated on the U-WIN portal. The vaccine is globally recognised as safe and has been in use for several years across approximately 148 countries.
The initiative marks a significant public health effort to safeguard young girls against cervical cancer and strengthen preventive healthcare in the region.
