Sagar Watch News/ Raising concern over the Madhya Pradesh government’s new excise policy, Democratic Socialist Party leader Raghu Thakur alleged that the move would give a free hand to liquor consumption and lead to a rise in social crimes.
He said the Excise Department has introduced a provision for issuing temporary licences at ₹500 for hosting liquor parties at homes, with online applications allowed. This would effectively turn houses into liquor bars, disturbing neighbourhoods, he claimed.
Thakur warned that women would face harassment, children could be influenced negatively, and public order would suffer. Citing Bhopal, where around 600 temporary licences were issued for a revenue of just ₹3 lakh, he questioned whether such income justified social harm.
The party has announced its opposition to the policy and urged citizens to protest by writing to the Chief Minister and Excise Minister.
