The week-long Gour Utsav 2025, celebrating the 156th birth anniversary of renowned educationist, jurist and founder of Dr. Harisingh Gour University, concluded on 26 November in Sagar with grandeur and deep reverence.

Highlights of the Day

A traditional morning procession began with Vice-Chancellor Prof. V.S. Thakur garlanding Dr. Gour’s statue at Teen Batti. The grand Gaur Shobha Yatra, accompanied by bands and enthusiastic participation of citizens, students, NCC cadets and public representatives, passed through major city routes and reached the university campus, where guests paid homage at the Gour Memorial.

Main Ceremony

The central ceremony commenced with the lighting of lamps, floral tributes, and a soulful Saraswati Vandana by the Music Department.

  • Called Gour a symbol of struggle and determination.


Major Announcements

  • Justice Satish Sharma and Prof. Bajpai announced annual Gold Medals in memory of their fathers for meritorious students in History and Criminology/Judicial Sciences.

  • NLU Delhi to provide ₹10 lakh for establishing the Dr Gour Chair in Law and offer five paid internships annually to law students.


Awards & Recognitions

  • Release of books authored by university faculty.

  • Merit awards and financial assistance are distributed to students.

  • Single girl child and specially-abled students received ₹25,000 each from Gaur Peeth funds.

  • 11 teachers and one researcher, listed among the world’s Top 2% scientists, were felicitated.

  • The university’s journalism department released its practical newspaper, Samay.

  • Sports winners were also honoured.


Constitution Day Observed

The Vice-Chancellor led the reading of the Preamble of the Constitution, reaffirming commitment to constitutional values.
