Sagar Watch News/ The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), today, staged a massive protest outside Sagar Municipal Corporation against what it termed as “criminal negligence and corruption” by officials and contractors. The protest, joined by party members and a large number of citizens, including women, took place despite heavy rainfall.
Public Anger Over Negligence
Residents from various wards raised their voices against severe problems such as waterlogging, unplanned road construction, and incomplete sewer projects. Protesters alleged that poor planning and collusion between officials and contractors had turned several neighborhoods into “water cities,” pushing people into a swamp of diseases and hardships.
Engineer D.K. Singh told the media:
-
“Municipal engineers raised roads without survey or technical basis, leaving thousands of homes and shops below road level. Rainwater is flooding into houses—this is administrative criminal negligence.”
-
“The sewer project is riddled with corruption. Contractors abandoned incomplete work while officials turned a blind eye. People are falling, getting injured, and suffering daily, while files are just being shuffled in offices.”
Memorandum and Key Demands
AAP submitted a memorandum to the Municipal Commissioner, demanding urgent corrective measures:
-
Immediate drainage arrangements in all waterlogged areas.
-
Review of wrongly elevated roads and provision of proper drainage channels.
-
High-level inquiry into corruption in the sewer project with strict action against guilty contractors and officials.
-
Immediate repair of unfinished and dug-up roads.
-
Future construction projects to be undertaken only after proper geographical and technical surveys.
The Additional Commissioner assured in writing that a reply to the memorandum would be given within three days.
Organizational Expansion
Alongside the protest, AAP held a district executive meeting to expand its organization. Over 50 new members, including many women, joined the party during the event. Notable among them were Advocate Sugandh Kurmi, Laxman Dubey, and Ms. Mansi Patel.
