Sagar Watch/ To improve the traffic system of the city, a high-level joint meeting of district administrative officers and public representatives was held in the city on Monday. In the meeting, discussions were held to bring the unruly traffic of the city back on track.

The latest reason for this exercise to improve traffic is a recent incident in which a businessman was killed after being hit from behind by a drunk auto driver.

Among the decisions taken in the meeting regarding the traffic system of Katra, it was decided -

  • To register the hand carts standing on the road in the main market of the city and to displace these hand cart traders in 40 shops built in the vegetable market.
  • It is noteworthy that Sagar is the first city in the country in which shops have been built for vegetable and fruit traders at a cost of about Rs 2.5 crore, which have been allotted to them free of cost.
  • But even after this, the handcart traders of Katra market are not ready to go there. In view of the arbitrariness of hand cart traders, it has been decided to take punitive action against them.
  • Autos, Ape and Champion are operating without permits in the city. Now the vehicles with permits will be painted with a specific color stripe and their permit number will be displayed so that they can be easily identified.
  • There are fixed stops for passenger vehicles so  action should be taken against vehicles parked on the road.
  • Strict action should be taken against those who drink and drive. For this, an intensive checking campaign should be conducted.
  •   Apart from this, fare of passenger vehicles should be fixed so that they do not charge arbitrary fare at night.

The meeting was held in the Collectorate auditorium under the chairmanship of the city MLA in which the District Collector, Superintendent of Police, Municipal Corporation Commissioner, City Magistrate, District Transport Officer, both Deputy Superintendents of Police of Traffic Police were present.

The activism of the traffic police has started showing results in the city. The traffic police is tightening its grip on two-wheelers running unbridled on the roads without number plates.

Dozens of two-wheelers are seen there every day. On Wednesday evening, the traffic police seized about one and a half dozen two-wheelers in the Civil Line area of the city and sent them to the police station. Many of the seized vehicles did not have number plates.

In this action of the traffic police, the loud silencers fitted in Bullet motorcycles are also being targeted. While this action of the police has created fear among the people driving there by breaking traffic rules, the common citizens have got relief to a great extent from the terror of vehicles running unbridled and making noise on the roads.
