In Sagar, leaders across the political spectrum paid rich tributes to Karpoori Thakur during the unveiling of his statue, highlighting his legacy of simplicity, struggle, and dedication to social justice.

The event reinforced Karpoori Thakur’s image as a people-centric leader who rose above materialism, with speakers urging society to adopt his ideals of simplicity, social justice, and dedication for nation-building.

Addressing the gathering, Narendra Singh Tomar described Karpoori Thakur as a symbol of perseverance, moral values, and visionary leadership, emphasising that such occasions are meant not just for ceremonial speeches but for drawing inspiration from great personalities.

Tomar stressed that in an era driven by material competition, Indian culture has always valued virtue, ethics, and selflessness over wealth and power, citing that true respect in society comes from character, not riches. 

He noted that despite lacking material assets, Karpoori Thakur earned the highest civilian honour, the Bharat Ratna, due to his lifelong service and commitment to the underprivileged.

Union Minister Raj Bhushan Choudhary highlighted Thakur’s role in the Quit India Movement, noting that he left his studies to join the freedom struggle and later served twice as Chief Minister, working tirelessly for the poor and backward classes.

State Minister Govind Singh Rajput described Thakur as a leader who turned power into a means of public service, while other speakers remembered him as a social reformer and a champion of equality.

Karpoori Thakur lived a life of extreme simplicity—no wealth, property, or luxury—yet earned nationwide respect.
He actively participated in the 1942 freedom struggle, leaving his education behind.
He was elected to the विधानसभा (Assembly) eight times, earning the title of an undefeated जननायक (people’s leader).
He served twice as Chief Minister, focusing on the upliftment of poor and backward communities.
Leaders emphasised that true leadership lies in service, sacrifice, and integrity, not material success.
The statue installation was made possible through local administrative and political collaboration, reflecting his continued relevance.
Socialist thinker Raghu Thakur said Karpoori Thakur embodied the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, Ram Manohar Lohia, and Jayaprakash NarayanCalls were also made to ensure fair opportunities for Hindi-medium students in competitive exams, reflecting Thakur’s stance on linguistic equality.
