Consumer Rights Champions Honoured at Sagar Division Event

On the occasion of World Consumer Rights Day, a special ceremony was conducted at the Office of the Commissioner, Sagar Division, where individuals making outstanding contributions in the field of consumer welfare were honoured.

The event was graced by the presence of Sagar Division Commissioner Anil Suchari, along with the Deputy Commissioner and the District Supply Controller, Sagar.

During the program, Commissioner Suchari presented the first prize, along with a certificate of appreciation, to advocate Santosh Kumar Soni from Sagar for his notable work in protecting consumer interests. 


Nitin Solanke, Founder and National President of Grahak Dakshata Kalyan Foundation, was awarded the second prize in recognition of his efforts in consumer awareness and welfare.

The programme was conducted by the District Supply Controller, Sagar. Officials and staff from the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Department were also present on the occasion, marking a collective commitment towards strengthening consumer rights in the region.

District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission Chairman Rajesh Kostha has given a verdict in favor of the consumer in a vehicle insurance case. Advocate Santosh Soni told that my party Dr. Pawan Kumar Tamrakar had insured his Innova Crysta car from Shriram General Insurance Company Limited.

The insurance period of their vehicle is from 18 January 2020 to 17 January 2021. Had taken. Meanwhile, on March 16, 2020, the vehicle met with an accident. The vehicle was insured under the zero depth scheme.

When Dr. Tamrakar informed the insurance company about the accident, the surveyor came and certified the damage to the vehicle worth about Rs 42 thousand. Despite this, the vehicle cost Rs 1.13 lakh.

When the vehicle owner made a claim for this amount before Shriram General Insurance, the insurance company refused to pay it. The company said that Dr. Tamrakar had got insurance from an insurance company named IFFCO Tokio a year ago. for whom He had also taken no claim bonus.

But he hid this from our company. Advocate Soni, on behalf of Dr. Tamrakar, argued that it is the responsibility of the NCB to collect information about availing benefits. Belongs to the insurance company. She cannot blame the consumer for this.

The Commission agreed with this argument and said that the insurance company has 21 days to know about the NCB but Shriram Insurance did not do anything during this period. 

In this situation the insurance company is responsible for paying the insurance amount. Since the complainant has not raised any objection on the loss amount of Rs 42 thousand found after the survey.

Therefore, the insurance company will pay Rs. 42 thousand 424 to the consumer Dr. Tamrakar with 6 percent interest rate from March 10, 2021 till the payment date, Rs. 15 thousand for deficiency in service, physical, mental and financial compensation to the complainant within 2 months from the date of order. Do. Apart from this, Rs 2,000 litigation expenses should also be paid to the complainant.
