Sagar Watch News/ Ayushi Agrawal from Sagar has won a bronze medal for India at the Asia-Africa-Pacific International Powerlifting Championship held in Himeji, Japan, by lifting 425 kg in the bench press event.
Daughter of local jeweler Ashok Agrawal, Ayushi's achievement has brought pride to her family, city, and the country.
This is the first time in Bundelkhand's history that a female athlete has won an international medal in powerlifting. She also broke her own previous record of lifting 417 kg.
Ayushi credits her success to three years of hard work and guidance from her coach Shailendra Edwin. She now aims to win gold for India in the upcoming World Championship and Commonwealth Games.
Her journey in powerlifting began three years ago when she joined a gym while preparing for competitive exams. Her interest grew, and she found early success at district and divisional levels. She will return to Sagar on Thursday and begin preparations for future competitions.
