Sagar Watch News/ A groundbreaking study from Michigan State University has uncovered that oxytocin—often called the “love hormone”—may be key to repairing damaged human hearts. In a research paper published in Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, led by Dr. Aitor Aguirre, which demonstrates that oxytocin can stimulate heart regeneration.
It does so by reprogramming cells in the heart’s outer layer into stem-like cells known as epicardium-derived progenitor cells (EpiPCs). These cells are capable of migrating into the heart muscle and regenerating tissue after injury—an ability once believed to be impossible in humans.
